Spring has Sprung at This New Old House!
I have to admit, I say at the beginning of every season that I love that season the most. Seriously, when the Christmas holiday season comes I love that the most {I mean, did you see my 12 Days of Decking the Halls on Facebook…I love Christmas!}. When fall comes with its sweaters, boots and beautiful colors I love that the most. When summer is here with backyard barbeques, coffee on the patio, and continuous summer blooms I love that the most! And, here we are now coming into the refreshing spring season. In Iowa right now, we are still fighting last snow showers, but the little peaks of spring flowers emerging through the landscape give us a reminder that spring will soon be here in all its bright and lush glory! I think what I really love is the CHANGE in the seasons...which keeps life {and your home décor!} interesting!
So…spring has sprung at This New Old House. My winter whites are tucked back into the closet and pops of greenery and a hint of spring color are emerging in my neutral palette. Take a spring home tour with me and be inspired with some ideas to incorporate into your own home décor for the season.
Let’s talk about pillows and plants! Who does not want to curl up in this corner with coffee and friends? I kept the black and white buffalo check for the season and incorporated into my spring palette and love how the green plants pop against this neutral background. The artillery plants are still going strong from my Valentine DIY, and I spring-timed them up with jute ribbon and lace. Let’s talk about trays before we leave this corner…a must in your home décor – darling décor collectors that are functional and fun. {Pillows from Kirkland’s. Tray from Hobby Lobby. Buffalo check mugs from Pottery Barn.}
Moving on over to the fireplace mantle, this is definitely an area that I change out with every season. Old windows are one of my favorite décor items. For spring I added a craft, silver, and gold themed pendant {that I actually DIYed for mini-me’s birthday party several years ago} because we are celebrating springtime and pendants are the ultimate fun statement. The letter board quoting one of my favorite songs, and the vintage bottles and ferns are from one of my favorite little local boutiques to continue my theme of the spring green pops of color. {Letter board from Amazon. Bottles and fern greenery from Rescued Junk.}
Let’s bring our coffee and continue the tour over in the breakfast nook. When we built This New Old House a breakfast nook was a must, just something about this cozy little area {and that amazing lighting} that makes me happy. {Did I mention I am a morning person?} This area is actually one of my favorite spots on the spring home tour. I love, love, love the pop of color from this absolutely gorgeous quilt repurposed as a table cloth. The bunny dishes scream spring, the black matte silverware makes such a statement contrasting the colorful backdrop {I love this silverware!}, add in a cake stand and some greenery, and we are ready to coffee cheers! {Quilt from Threaded Quilting. Place settings from Elements by K. Sorbe.}
We’re going to get a bit more formal and move the tour into the dining room. I am going to admit, we eat at the kitchen island for 90% of our family meals, but I am a bit old-fashioned at heart {I know, shocker, right?!!!} and when we built This New Old House a formal dining room was also on my must-have list. And, I do also have to admit this is one of my favorite rooms to decorate! I am mixing all kinds of old in this room with the vintage dishes, my lantern collection, the antique crocks, my old window & frame.
A favorite springtime pop of fun is my wreath birch pole in the dining room. I call it my spring wreath soiree! I put this up at Christmastime with my holiday wreaths and knew when spring time rolled around I just had to have some fun new wreaths for this spot. I am not ready to take the birch pole down quite yet! My favorite is the mini-moss birdie wreath. Cute, right??! {Wreath arrangements by Adel Flowers & Gifts.}
Let’s hop this springtime tour across to the foyer. This table is one of my absolute favorite pieces of furniture in our home, an heirloom piece from my in-laws. You know I love mixing the old with the new, some chippy farmhouse, cake stands, fresh florals, and a little pop of buffalo check make my spring heart happy!
Last, but certainly not least, let’s end the tour in the guest bedroom. This room got a major color refresh with this gorgeous quilt and spring tulips. And, remember from our first stop on the spring home tour…I told you to get some trays! {Quilt from Threaded Quilting. Tray from Hobby Lobby. Tulips from Adel Flowers & Gifts.}
Thanks so much for joining in on the spring tour at This New Old House. Now, get decorating, friends!!!
