Valentine's Hot Cocoa Bar - Hearts Hurray!
I love decorating for the all the holidays and give me all the hearts for Valentine’s Day! I normally put my hot cocoa bar up in the Fall and transition it out for the holidays through the end of February when I switch out to my spring décor. Who doesn’t love a cup of hot creamy hot cocoa with all your favorite toppings all winter long?!! Let’s style the perfect hot cocoa bar for Valentine’s Day!
#1 – A vintage buffet is the base for our hot cocoa station with an old window as our backdrop to “frame” the station. You can do this on your counter top or a side table in your kitchen, dining room or even a tray on a coffee table. Any place good for prep and a little hot cocoa gathering!
#2 – I love to layer. Our first layer is a live edge tray that my husband, Jim, made. He makes the most beautiful handcrafted charcuterie boards as a hobby.

#3 – I collect vintage cake stands. We are going to use these as layers for our mugs and hot cocoa mix.
#4 - You can use your favorite mugs and change them out for the seasons if you want. My mugs are hand made by local pottery artist Wendy with Barnware Pottery from WDM, Iowa. She actually designed them special for This New Old House. They are neutral with a chevron pattern and look at the little surprise heart at the bottom with a copper glaze. Perfect for Valentine’s Day, right?!!

#5 – If you want to add a little extra fun, you can accessorize your mugs with a mug cozy. These mug cozy’s were hand knitted by a maker Jennifer from Lilac Valley Creations in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Aren’t they so cute? Like a sweater for your mug!
#6 – Get some cute little containers for your hot cocoa toppings of choice. I put chalk label stickers on mine. And, for toppings I have marshmallows, caramels and chocolate covered raspberries.
#7 – We are adding some Valentine trees onto the sides of our hot cocoa station. My trees are a vintage white and I have them decorated with farmhouse beads made my local maker Eva with Helps Homesteads in Earlham, Iowa. And a heart garland I DIYed from vintage book pages.
#8 – Our final Valentine touches. We have a love banner to hang on the old window. This banner was handmade by White Cottage Market in Winterset with upcycled materials – old bingo cards, vintage beads and the letters are actually old game cards. And, an adorable heart gnome for our cherry on the top of the hot cocoa station to finish if off!
What do you think?! Should we make ourselves some hot cocoa?!!
